Milo Made is a ceramicist from London (Milo Liren)
"I mainly just enjoy the physical process of making I wouldn't ever cite- anything I've made as a 'project' i just go into my studio and have a play.
I suppose people like the aspect of having something unique & thats whats special about handmade design."
"I've never really thought about ceramics or my practice & studio as elitest. Were too busy deprately trying to afford the studio & keep it afloat.
But if i think about the demographic in my 12 person studio-
we are all painfully middle class women ( & one boy ) who have all gone to university (i actually did viscom at leeds art) // bar myself & one other girl very white."
"I suppose anything that costs money is sadly in its way elitest.
It does cost alot of money for us to have a studio in London.
That cost as well as the time & materials usually means that the end products have to be quite expensive to cover costs.
Which is absolutely exclusionary.
I do however also think that most 'craft' is thought of as a lesser 'art' form than painting & fine art"
"I find making things by hand very therapeutic / enjoyable & that's the reason I do it."
"There seems to be a ressurgence in hand made and bespoke things.
As there has been a prolifiration of means by which small independent makers and designers can sell and have their work be seen ( eg instagram )"
