Sabine Timm

I came across this artist through Instagram, he describes himself as 'I'm an a rust, creator, beach-trash collector, flea-market lover and photographer'. He created little scenes and compositions from small things he has found and collected, I think they look really interesting and light hearted. They are all miniature which I think is why it initially appealed to me as I have always been drawn to miniature art/ things.

IKEA Cook Book

http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2010/september/ikea-baking-book

The IKEA cook book really excites me, they have taken amazing pictures of the ingredients for the food instead of the final finished outcome of the recipe which is a different approach to a cook book. Not only this but the photographs are fantastic, everything is ordered and neatly aligned almost to a grid, these are a few of my favourites. I really want to buy the book as I could look at these photos over and over again and still find them amazing!

I was reading the creative review article when I came across the comment section and it seems a lot of people don't share my love for these photos:
I agree with Youssef, I find this cold, clinical and very unappealing. A bit like Ikea itself I suppose.Ben2010-10-01 11:16:39
It actually baffles me to how some people don't like these… I suppose we all have different tastes.

Stationary Compositions

http://stationery-compositions.tumblr.com

I have found this tumblr account made by Press & Correct (a really nice stationary brand) which displays their stationary in the nicest compositions! I love the colours and layouts which they have created, a lot of the time I forget it's just stationary because it looks so aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.

I also found a small article about it on ItsNiceThat

http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/stationery-compositions

These are a few of my favourite ones:

This idea of displaying the stationary like this on a blog is not only a piece of art and design, but is a selling technique and an extremely successful one after looking at these I went straight to Press & Corrects website and now want to order a lot of their stationary.

Mono prints

These are my favourite mono prints from the workshop, I really enjoyed this printing process as I was never sure on what the outcome was going to look like, this created happy accidents and design choices I would have never made consciously.
I used these prints within my Secret 7 designs too as I thought they fitted the style I was trying to achieve.
Looking back on all of my briefs I have realised that I work a lot with shape and colour, this is something that I am very interested and want to explore more as I feel it has affected my future ambitions in that I will be a more image based designer.

Screen Prints

Using the pattern I had created for my screen printed book cover design, I also created some prints on a variety of GF Smith stock samples I had ordered. I have used a neon pink/ orange colour.

I am really happy with these prints and have kept the screen exposed so I plan to go back and print some more on different coloured stocks with different ink colours. I really enjoy the process of screen printing and the prints have a much nicer quality compared to digital prints I think, they feel more hand made which I like. This has made me realise that perhaps I will specialise more in print as I also really enjoyed the mono printing workshop and was pleased with my designs then too.

OUGD402- Studio Brief 02- Self Branding- Final Crit Presentation

(A lot of the colours on these slides have turned darker when transferred on to blogger)

I have chosen Apercu because not only is it clean and modern like the rest of my design, but looking back on my previous projects this year it is a font that I have found appropriate for a lot of my work too.

I have created a mock up of what a stamp would look like with my logo on, however after presenting this I have realised that this is quite pointless as I don't know when this could be used.

OUGD402- Studio Brief 02- Self Branding- Design Decisions

I have chosen a variety of different colour ways in which I could choose, however I prefer the brighter/lighter colours as I think they reflect my style better as I have noticed in a lot of my work I have used bright pastel colours.

I have experimented with many different layouts for the back of my card where the information is. I struggled with what to call myself/ what I do, my initial ideas were:
Graphic Designer
Graphic Design
Designer
Creative Thinker
Graphic Designer in progress

I feel that I as I am only now finishing my first year it is too soon to call myself a Graphic Designer therefore I have just written 'Graphic Design'. A lot of people say they don't actually know what graphic design is, but putting something like 'creative thinker' causes even more confusion I think as it is even less concise. I think writing 'Graphic Design' hopefully communicated the clearest form of what I do.

My final colours I have chosen. (above)
I have chosen 2 typefaces that would both work well, Apercu and Neuzeit Grotesk. I founf Neuzeit Grotesk when I was on the Grafik website as it is their typeface they use for everything. I really like both of these typefaces and I have narrowed it down to these 2 because they are both very legible, they look clean and modern.

My colour swatch is very bright and fun, it isn't primary colours but almost which makes it have quite a child like feel to it, I have used a lot of these colours throughout my work this year so I think this reflects my style well.

I have created a grid for my business card and used this grid for my presentation. This way my presentation will be consistent with my business card- creating a stronger and more consistent identity.

I have also created a range of possible layouts for a letter head.
